Is web design and web development the same ? Do You Know The Difference?

Web Designer vs Web Developer: Are they both same?

Nope. They both have different responsibilities and talent.

A web designer is a graphic artist who is in charge of designing a website’s layout, usability, and visual appearance.

Why agencies use WordPress to build a website -7 Reasons Why we use WordPress to create websites

A successful web designer must have a wide range of creative, graphic, and technical abilities. A web developer is someone who creates and maintains the foundation of a website.

Web designer vs web developer: quick overview

Consider these two terms to be closely related, and I am sure a great developer will also have an eye for design.

However, the term Web Designer refers more to the front end and UI/UX of the website.

If that appeals to you more than the technical aspect of developing web applications, you might be a better fit as a designer.

Web designer: he is the person who is responsible for creating the design for the UI of the website.

He is not concerned about how the backed coding is done which process data but his work is to write code to give a website an appearance.

He is also responsible for making logos or other graphic design. The language mostly used by him are HTML/CSS for UI coding. Photoshop/Corel Draw/Illustrator etc. for making graphics.

Web Developer: He is a person that works in shadow. i.e his work has nothing to do with the UI, he is responsible for back end coding and making its reaction for the user.

E.g when a user enters his info on a web page his data is stored in the database, making the website a secure version, controlling the traffic of the website not letting it overload on many usages etc. The language involved is mostly HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Php, MySQL etc(There are many languages where user can work).

Is it better to be a Web Designer or Web Developer?

Whether you should be a Web Designer or a Web Developer is determined by which type of work comes naturally to you, is most aligned with your natural skills and abilities, and provides the most satisfaction.

The final decision is the result of balancing what is important to you based on where your interests, temperament, and natural abilities overlap.

The definition of design is design. It is a combination of visual and communication arts. Developing is coding, programming, database management, user interactions, and function calls… forget it.

If you’ve ever dabbled in coding or programming, you’ll know whether you like it or not. If you enjoyed it, then development could be a good path for you.

Is custom Web design gone? How do we convince people that custom design is better than the 1K buck template deal online?

Absolutely not.

In fact, I’d argue web design/ development is even expanding and here’s why:

  • Technology is increasingly necessary for a business to be competitive and not just websites – core systems that are tied to them. Lead gen, testimonials / social proof, invoicing and payments – all of it increasingly more and more digital and more and more tied very closely to the website as a hub.
  • Web development that is increasingly necessary is also increasingly complex – which edges out the “hobbyist,” who still has to you know actually run their business.
  • People are savvier than before because of point 2 – you know a stock image/site when you see one.
  • A website has gone from being a “static” seldom changed thing to something that’s incredibly dynamic and changed frequently.

Templates only increase the average price per website – because here’s what happens.

A client goes to install it and quickly gets overwhelmed with trying to figure out why it doesn’t look as good as the demo, or tries to make updates and spends hours and hours toying with it.

Eventually, that business either permanently falls behind competitors or realizes they need to hire a professional to help them navigate setting up a real site.

Plus, with all that tech and software and platforms floating out there – it creates even more confusion for the user on how to use what, when and where to do it.

Not paying attention to, those costs escalate quickly into huge monthly bills -$20 a month per person at a time, all because there was no real investment in synchronization and proper planning.

Now, most of the time – people will start out thinking it’s cheap or say “hey I’ll use Wix” or do it themselves – and it might work for small, basic uses.

But eventually, they start hitting the wall and it holds them and their business back – and then they may still go for a cheap dev, then more things break and they get another one and another one until finally enough is enough and they pay for an actual professional to do it and things start coming together.

Every industry has its complaints and pros and cons – as a web dev, you’re all about making the website work effectively, efficiently, in a way that reduces tech debt, systems costs and helps things expand smoothly – which is a pretty prime spot to be in.

People who struggle tend to focus only on “designing” the site – and not the broader problem of the customer: making technology work for them seamlessly as part of an overall business building system that scales.

Can a web developer be a web designer?

The answer is yes. You can work as a designer as well as a developer. You’ll probably always be better at one than the other, but your goal should be to be competent in all of them.

Who earns more web designer or web developer?

Although web developers earn more than web designers on average, their pay varies depending on their specialisation. Developers typically earn more than designers, owing to their ability to write code in multiple languages.

Is it hard to be a web developer?

The fact is that It will take time and effort.

The real answer is that learning never stops. It takes time and effort to learn and work in web development. As a result, you’re never truly finished learning. Mastering the skills of a good web developer can take years.

“Websites promote you 24/7: No employee will do that.”

When do you need a web designer and web developer?

It does not always have to be either/or. For example, creating a website from scratch necessitates the involvement of both a developer and a designer.

After all, collaboration is what makes the website dream a reality.

If, like most people, you don’t have time to create website pages while juggling invoices and client emails, hiring a web design agency can be extremely beneficial.

Alternatively, if you require a website with advanced functionality, hiring a team of experts is a great option.

Web designer vs web developer: Summary

You should now have a better understanding of web design, but let’s quickly review what we’ve learned.

The distinction between a web developer and a web designer is more pronounced than you might think.

A web designer transforms a brand’s concept into an on-screen reality and understands what the target audience will enjoy.

A web developer creates the core structure of a website by using coding languages to create logical, programmatic websites.

However, just like mustard and ketchup on a hot dog, you sometimes need both to get the best flavour. When creating a website from scratch, you’ll need a web developer to lay the groundwork and a web designer to make it look and feel the way you want it to.
